Within a mere five hours of the project launching, it had already surpassed its funding goal of £19,755 by a staggering 200%, thanks to the support of 900 enthusiastic backers. And the momentum hasn’t slowed down. Today, that total stands at almost 10 times the amount — £190,380 (over $245,000)!
This overwhelming response surely highlights the enduring affection people have for Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson’s legendary solo gaming adventure books.
Like many, I have fond memories of these books. I believe my own copies are currently residing in my son’s bedroom, as he too has been captivated by the world of solo RPG adventures. And, of course, we’ve recently seen how the game books are being reinterpreted for mobile Fighting Fantasy titles.
A legacy reborn
The Fighting Fantasy series, which began in 1982 by Games Workshop co-founders Livingstone and Jackson, is a multi-million selling phenomenon. Now, it’s making a triumphant return to print in the United States.
It’s truly incredible to witness the continued popularity of these books. While anyone who has experienced their immersive gameplay won’t be surprised, the sheer enthusiasm for this reprint is undeniable.
Interestingly, the reprints are being handled by Steve Jackson Games. And here’s the delightful coincidence: this Steve Jackson is no relation to the Steve Jackson of the Fighting Fantasy series. Just one of those wonderful quirks of fate!
