Back to Sherwood! The 1987 Robin of Sherwood Annual returns!

Robin of Sherwood annual 1987

Calling all fans of Robin of Sherwood — get ready for a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s because something truly special is happening. Those of us of a certain age will be especially thrilled to hear that the official 1987 Robin of Sherwood annual is being reissued!

Yes, you read that right — a new print run of the official (created in 2022) 1987 annual will be available in March 2025. This is a companion piece to the original (and now very rare) 1986 annual, which focused solely on Michael Praed’s Robin (and was genuinely published in 1985). The 1987 edition covers both eras of the show, including Jason Connery’s time as the hooded hero.

And the best part? It’s been lovingly crafted to feel like it actually came out in 1987! Imagine it: the series was still going strong, with the Knights of the Apocalypse TV movie on the horizon, and Richard Carpenter (the show’s creator) was ready to wrap things up. The 1986 annual felt a little thin compared to other popular TV show annuals of the time, so editor Barnaby Eaton-Jones (a former contributor to Kasterborous back in the day) has pulled out all the stops to make the 1987 edition a real treasure trove.

This A4 hardback is a whopping 96 pages of full-colour goodness! Inside, you’ll find brand-new interviews with Michael Praed, Jason Connery, Judy Trott, producer Esther Chisam, and writer Anthony Horowitz. There’s a “How to Be Evil” feature with Nicholas Grace and Richard O’Brien, Clive Mantle’s “Little John’s Jottings,” a four-part comic strip called “Blood Moon,” a crossword, a game, a new illustrated adventure story, specially commissioned artwork, and even stuntman Graham Kilner’s memories of playing the Hooded Man during the transition from Praed to Connery.

This 1987 annual was initially published in 2022 by Chinbeard Books in a limited run. But due to high demand, they’re re-releasing it in February 2025 for delivery in March 2025, but already supplies are running low.
