With a typically British stiff upper lip, the wartime spirit and a love of the greatest rock group ever (Queen), Murray has been honing the act since winning the 1999 Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival. His early touring career saw him adopt ownership of various licensed venues in which he performed, and the birth of various catchphrases…

With a show that owes more than a little bit to The Dame Edna Experience, Al Murray’s Happy Hour nevertheless does a superb job of engaging with the audiences and with the guests, and the sooner the man himself is back on television, the better.
