In a recent discovery, a long-lost episode of the beloved children’s television show, “Play School,” has been recovered. This episode, dating back to August 12, 1965, is a significant find, as it adds to the dwindling number of surviving episodes from the show’s early years.
Announced on Facebook, the episode was unearthed by the Film is Fabulous! team, in collaboration with the De Montfort University Cinema and History Research Centre. This discovery is a testament to the efforts being made to preserve and recover lost television content.
The recovered episode of “Play School” is particularly significant because it features Marion Diamond and Rick Jones, two iconic presenters from the show’s early days. Marion Diamond appeared in six episodes between 1964 and 1967, while Rick Jones presented 447 shows between 1964 and 1973. The discovery of this episode adds to the limited number of surviving episodes featuring these presenters.
The recovery of the 1965 “Play School” episode is a reminder of the importance of preserving our television heritage. It also highlights the ongoing efforts to uncover lost content and share it with future generations. As more and more lost television material is rediscovered, we can continue to appreciate the rich history of television and the impact it has had on our culture.
