Sadly, many Doctor Who episodes from the 1960s are missing, presumed lost forever. Happily, most of the series still exists and has been released on VHS or DVD at some point.
I’ve seen DVDs and Videos of Doctor Who on Amazon. Are these worth buying?
Worth buying? WORTH BUYING?!?! They’re Doctor Who! Of course they’re worth buying!
Seriously though, the new DVD range from the BBC is excellent, each having had considerable restoration work and accompanied by well researched and planned extras.
Do I need to have seen past episodes to watch the new series?
No! The beauty of Doctor Who is that despite its long history, no knowledge of the past is required. Feel free to visit the past and view classic serials such as The Caves of Androzani, The Talons of Weng Chiang, Inferno, The Tomb of the Cybermen – Doctor Who at its best, each of these demonstrates the show’s diversity.
Will the New Series be available on DVD?
Most of it is already! All thirteen new epsiodes are released across 4 DVDs this year (with a boxset coming November 21st). Series 1 Volume 1 was released in May, Volume 2 in June, Volume 3 is due on August 1st and Volume 4 on September 5th
